HERE’S HOW TO UNLOCK NEW JOBS RED MAGE AND SAMURAI
LONDON (21st June 2017) – SQUARE ENIX® launched FINAL FANTASY® XIV: Stormblood™, the latest expansion of the critically acclaimed MMORPG that continues to capture the hearts and imaginations of over six million players worldwide.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood continues the story of the Warrior of Light in his quest to liberate Ala Mhigo, a vast land conquered by the Garleans twenty years ago. Players will also be able to depart from the shores of Eorzea for the very first time, travelling to the Far Eastern lands of Doma and Kugane as they fight to liberate those lands oppressed by the Empire.
Players can adventure together with seamless cross-platform play on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, and Macintosh.
Stormblood sees the addition of two new jobs to the game. And while hopeful cosplayers may have dressed as a Blue Mage as well as a Fat Chocobo on the Southbank in London at the launch of early access, the two new jobs in Stormblood are Red Mage and Samurai. But what are these new jobs and how do you unlock them?
Red Mage background:
The Red Mage hails from the mountains of Gyr Abania, on the Eastern edge of Albalathia’s Spire.
It is in these elevated lands that people took shelter when a burning star guided them away from the Sixth Umbral Calamity’s treacherous floodwaters. The survivors gathered from near and far, and amongst them were refugees of the sorcerous cities of Mhach and Amdapor.
These sworn enemies buried their history for the sake of the future, and cast aside their vestments of black and white. Upon the remnants of their arts a new discipline was built, and the first red mages stepped forward with rapiers in hand to fight back against the rising tides of destruction
How does the Red Mage fight?
The Red Mage is a ranged DPS (damage per second) job starting at level 50, which wields weapons including a rapier and a Magicked Crystal Medium. However it isn’t as simple as that. To fight well as a Red Mage you need to balance the use of white and black magic, before unleashing close quarters attacks with your rapier. So positioning will be important. Most interestingly, the Red Mage is the only job to have the Doublecast skill, allowing players to use a second spell immediately after the first one.
Red Mage shares equipment with both the Black Mage and Summoner so if you already play those jobs, it will be an easier transition.
How to unlock
As long as you have a level 50 character, a copy of Stormblood and have completed the Main Scenario Quest ‘The Ultimate Weapon’, unlocking the Red Mage is pretty straightforward
Head to the Steps of Thal area in Ul’dah and find an NPC called Distraught Lass. She will give you the quest ‘Taking the Red’ which requires you to head to Central Thanalan and find a Red Mage NPC. Once you speak again to the Distraught Lass, the Red Mage will appear at a tavern south of Black Brush Station. Talk to him again and the Red Mage job is yours.
Samurai background:
Far across the rolling waves, towards the rising sun, there lies the island nation of Hingashi.
In the distant past, the realm’s great lords vied for supremacy over its sea-girt confines in a long and bloody conflict. And taking to battle in their lieges’ names were noble swordsmen whose art was forged in the crucible of war: the samurai.
Eventually, the nation was unified under one banner, and these warriors came to wield their katana not upon fields as part of an army, but upon streets as protectors of the peace.
But as a neglected blade grows dull with rust, so too do men forget their purpose. Amidst waning memories of the old ways, a determined few hold fast to their convictions, hands by katana grips, awaiting the moment for steel to sing.
How does the Samurai fight?
The Samurai is a melee focussed DPS job with its main attribute being STR, and wields a giant two-handed Katana.
The job starts at level 50 and like Red Mage, does not have a base class, but shares equipment with monk – which will make the transition easier if that is the job you already play as. The Samurai will also be a frontline damage dealer but unlike the monk will focus on big powerful hits, rather than frequent smaller ones.
How to unlock
As with the Red Mage, Samurai requires a level 50 character, a copy of Stormblood and for you to have completed the Main Scenario Quest ‘The Ultimate Weapon’.
To unlock, look south of the Aetheryte Crystal in Ul’dah where you will find an NPC called Ul’dahn citizen who will give you the quest ‘The Way of the Samurai’.
Next, head to the Coliseum inside The Steps of Thal, where you will be guided to talk to a Samurai NPC in the Gladiator’s Guild. After you speak to the Samurai, you will have unlocked your new job.
